The games I played in 2011

Games Finished

Games I played that have a finished status either on the save I have or at another point in time. In other words, I’ve personally made it to the end of the game. In other words, games I don’t have to go back to any time soon unless I’m trying for achievements or playing for nostalgia (which happens a lot :O)

  • Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (Xbox 360)

Games left Incomplete

Too many games to play not enough time after work to clear them all. These games were left unfinished at the end of the year unfortunately. These games make up the games I’ll eventually go back to and finish. Some have higher priority then others due to sequels coming up.

  • Anomaly: Warzone Earth (PC)
  • Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)
  • Chantelise – A Tale of Two Sisters (PC)
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy (PSP)
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC)
  • Fate/Extra (PSP)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)
  • Front Mission Evolved (PC)
  • God Eater Burst (PSP)
  • Hard Corps: Uprising (Xbox 360 – XBLA)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (Nintendo 3DSWare – Gameboy Advance)
  • Metroid Fusion (Nintendo 3DSWare – Gameboy Advance)
  • Mighty Milky Way (Nintendo DSiware)
  • Monster Hunter Unite (PSP)
  • My World, My Way (Nintendo DS)

  • Valkyria Chronicles 3 (PSP – Import)
  • Wipeout HD/Wipeout Fury (PS3)
  • The Witcher 2 (PC)
  • Games Abandoned

These games I started but have no interest in finishing. They are either TOO hard or the game just didn’t hold my interest and I have since sold them, traded them, put them away or sent back to Gamefly with little interest in getting it again.

    • Alpha Squad (Xbox 360 – Indie Games)
    • Excitebike 3D (Nintendo 3DSware)
    • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 3DS)
    • SOS (Super Nintendo)
    • Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3 – Genesis Vintage)

    Fighting games

Fighting games really have no end though they do have some stories. Some games I finish till I see everyone’s story or I just finish the characters I like. There was a glut of fighters this year so I’m a little burned out on them… Sorta like how I’m burned out on shooters for a bit.

    • Arcana Heart 3 (PS3)
    • Blazblue Continuum Shift (PS3)
    • Eternal Fighter Zero (PC)
    • Marvel vs Capcom 3 (PS3)
    • Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver B (PC)
    • Soul Calibur IV (Xbox 360)
    • Super Smash Brothers Melee (Nintendo Wii)
    • Tekken 6 (PS3)

    Blame Valve

Games I started but weren’t planning on playing just yet thanks to the recent Steam Achievements for the holidays.

    • And Yet It Moves (PC)
    • Bastion (PC)
    • X3: Albion Prelude (PC)

    Games with no end

I can’t justify I’ve beaten them nor is there an indicator of such unless you count kill screens which these games don’t have. They can be picked up and played with no connection to previous plays outside of high scores or achievements not earned. Some have stories but they’re pretty shallow.

    • Audiosurf (PC)
    • Catan (Xbox 360 – XBLA)
    • Dungeon Defender (PC)
    • MAG (PS3)
    • Minecraft (PC)
    • PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX (Xbox 360)
    • Pinball FX (PS3)
    • Rockband 3 (Xbox 360)
    • Terreria (PC)
    • Tetris (PS3)
    • Tetris DS (Nintendo DS)

    • Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (PSP)
    • Robot Alchmic Drive (Playstation 2)
    • House of the Dead Overkill (PS3)
    • Samurai Warriors 2 (Xbox 360)
    • Stargate (Sega Genesis)
    • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Sega Genesis)

    MMOs

I play a lot of MMOs so here’s the list I touched this year. Not saying which ones I’mstill in, that’s for me to know and well, and if I run into you in game… hi!

    • CosmicBreak (PC)
    • Final Fantasy XI (PC)
    • Final Fantasy XIV (PC)
    • Jade Dynasty (PC)
    • Rusty Hearts (PC)
    • Shin Megami Tensei Imagine (PC)
    • Spiral Knights (PC)
    • Star Trek Online (PC)
    • Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
    • World of Warcraft (PC)

    Beta Tested

These are games I beta tested this past year. I’m pretty sure there were more and a good number of them weren’t games so they can’t be included on the list. Also these games have NDAs lifted so don’t go throwing it around that I’m breaking one. I actually read them :O

    • Battlefield 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
    • Rusty Hearts (PC)
    • Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
    • Uncharted 3 – Multiplayer(PS3)

    Gamelogs: Oct 26th thru Nov 1st, 2011

    Ace Combat Assault Horizon
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: October 16th 2011
    Status: Completed

Popped the game in and messed with the new ASF-X Shinden II which is one of the new DLC items. The plane is designed by Shōji Kawamori who does the mechanical designs for the Macross series. You can see it in this aircraft real easily. The way the wings morph based on your speed and the plane is highly maneuverable. That being said, Ace mode is freaking difficult! Damage seems to revert back to the Ace Combat style where damage doesn’t regenerate so that means you have to be extra careful not to bounce off things. The game by default allows for accidental collisions but if you do this in ace mode, you don’t get back your health. Almost beat the mission I was trying but I clipped a plane on the final leg of the mission.

    Atelier Totori
    Platform: PS3
    Started: October 26, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I was expecting more of the same when I stepped into Totori after finishing Rorona. Oh man can I be more wrong. The game changes the way you play the game. For the first part, gathering now spends time along with doing battle. No more grinding an entire area just to level like in Rorona. I’ll have to balance this game out a bit more. I only got a little bit in before I had to do other stuff.

    Fate/Extra
    Platform: PSP
    Started: November 1st, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

After taking so long to download, my copy was finally installed on my PSP. Funny thing is I have the game in it’s JP format and never expected to get it here. The game is a sorta alternate story to the original Fate/Stay Night series featuring some recurring characters in the series and some new ones all with brand new designs. Combat is very rock/paper/scissor which isn’t bad. Hopefully I can get further. The game has a lot of bad ending situations and I was finding them a lot in the Japanese version because my Kanji skills are poor.

Did a bit more track work. There are now tracks leading to the other towns we found. I need to either build my area up more or find another town.

    Ace Combat Assault Horizon
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: October 16th 2011
    Status: Completed

Two days seems like a short time for a game however I was really putting in the hours on Ace Combat. The game was really hard to put down and even though I died a lot, I continued to push on. I finally figured out the dog fighting system allowing me to do a lot more advanced tactics including heavy use of counters and such. I still haven’t played online but I am looking forward to it.

    Atelier Rorona
    Platform: PS3
    Started: October 9th 2011
    Status: Completed

FINALLY! I finally finished Atelier Rorona late last night. I only got one of the endings which is adventurer ending which required me to kill two bosses and get Cory and Rorona to 50. This wasn’t bad after I found the right equipment and the right spot to level. I’ll eventually do a replay of it getting the remaining thropies however I’m going to play Totori first!

    Dungeon Defender
    Platform: PC
    Started: October 22nd 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I tried this out over the weekend and am enjoying it. I went ahead with the more advanced character and was really doing decently for the first mission. I need to unlock more upgrades for the character to make her effective. I got the PC version since this gives me the most number of people to play with since its cross platform.

    Gamelogs: Oct 13, 2011 – Oct 18, 2011

    House of the Dead Overkill
    Platform: Nintendo Wii
    Started: October 17th 2011
    Status: Demoed

Oh man… This game really does take that really bad voice acting and runs with it. That being said the Wii isn’t the best system to have this on since it chugs at points, especially when two players are mowing down the zombies mutants left and right. The game will be coming out for the PS3 and I’ll probably grab it when my funds clear up some. BTW, has anyone noticed that the mansion you first start seems to have the same layout as the original mansion from Resident Evil?

    Ace Combat Assault Horizon
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: October 16th 2011
    Status: Ongoing

What can I say, I caved. For one it’s an Ace Combat game… On the other it’s not a typical Ace Combat game. Assault Horizon changes the formula a bit for a more movie style air combat. This is a lot more then the originals were. With the new Dog Fight System, you can either go on the offensive or end up on the defensive with the option to constantly switch between the two during a dogfight depending on the maneuvers you are capable of pulling off. The system is similar to the one found in Skycrawlers which lets you center on the enemy for an easier kill. The defense isn’t that bad until get like 2 or 3 chasing you which is usually really bad. The story is okay for the series standards. We’re not talking Clancy stuff but its decent. The changes are the other type of missions you have including the AC-130 mission, the gunner missions and the missions where your flying around in an Apache helicopter. I think I’m halfway through the game but I’m enjoying it.

    Atelier Rorona
    Platform: PS3
    Started: October 9th 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I dug a bit further into the game over the weekend clearing more sections of the game and I’m about to hit year 3. Hopefully I can keep up the pace this time in game as I’m much higher in level and have access to most of the stuff. Utilizing Hom is important as she is able to gather large amounts of resources for you while your busy. My current problem is triggering all the necessary cut scenes that I want for Cory.

    Minecraft
    Platform: PC

More Minecraft… this game is getting too addicting. So far I’ve done a bit more work. The rail system is borked due to wonky engine stuff which results in my minecarts disappearing. The system I’m using stores the minecarts off track and pushes them onto them when needed however the end result isn’t pretty. I’m going to change this to a tracked version in hopes of keeping the carts safe. I’m probably going to build a rail station system redoing the the one underwater and such. I’ll need a lot more gold though. I almost burned down our town while working on the light house due to a lava accident. Luckily we were able to stop the flow but god damn that was scary. Funny enough is the house which stored the bed was really small and somehow everything but the bed, the door and the windows burned down. When we put out the fire, they were just sitting there like nothing happened. I’ve since combined the store house and the beds house into one building reinforced with stone instead of wood.

Gamelogs: Sept 23rd thru Oct 12

    Holy cow that’s a long gap! Well there’s a reason. Mostly been very busy with work. I just moved into a new office as well as taking up a new hobby which has me outdoors most weekends… No seriously! I think I’ve seen more sun then I normally do :O So I’ve been too busy to write down my logs like a good blogger so I’m doing a sorta catch up post with everything I’ve played since the last update! Let’s see if I can remember it all! Oh these aren’t in any particular order since I’m just recalling them from the top of my head ^^;

    Super Smash Brothers Melee
    Platform: Nintendo Wii
    Started: N/A
    Status: N/A

We pulled this out over at my friends house… wow I suck at this game :( Lost a good portion of the battles mostly because I couldn’t remember how to use the wiimote controls. I guess I’m too use to the Gamecube control setup. In any case It was a lot of fun!

    Eternal Fighter Zero
    Platform: PC
    Started: N/A
    Status: N/A

This game makes me laugh when I think about it. It’s essentially a doujin fighter featuring members of Key (the Anime/Erogi makers). It has characters from Clanned, Air, Kannon and I think a few others. I’m not 100% up to date with their series but my favorite from them so far has been Angel Beats (why isn’t there a game for it yet!?) I think my favorite so far was randomly pulling out a car and beating my friend down with it as a finishing move :P

Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver B
    Platform: PC
    Started: N/A
    Status: N/A

I actually own the PS2 version of the original Act Cadenza release. I’m decent with the game but some of the moves are rough without a joystick to do them on. My thumbs were felling it after only 20 minutes. Doesn’t help we were using 360 controls with the really crappy D-pad.

    Altered Beast
    Platform: Sega Genesis
    Started: N/A
    Status: Completed

Old ass game which is means as hell! There’s nothing more frustrating then cheap enemies. This was design to eat your quarters and never got adjusted for home gamers so that means cheap tactics to kill the player including things you can’t possibly avoid unless you memorized monster spawns. We ended up beating the game but not before resorting to the continue code. That being said our play through of hard mode just utterly broke the game when we changed all the beast forms to the dragon :P

    Battlefield 3 Beta
Platform: Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC
    Started: N/A
    Status: Beta

Wow… this game is coming out in how many weeks!? I know its a beta but damn, I’ve played more betas then I want to admit to and its never been this buggy! There are weird animation bugs and holes in the world that make no sense. Also it’s difficult to submit responses when half the time your not sure where to send it in. I tried all 3 versions (i’m a masochist ^^;) and I can already say the PC version is by far the worst in terms of bugs. It’s bad when you somehow headshot yourself due to a bug…

    Tetris
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: N/A
    Status: N/A

We pulled this out to kill time while we waited for stuff to download. It was also the point my friends will probably refuse to battle me in Tetris now. I think i went for a good 15 minutes before I fell over at level 11 (or was it 12?) after a crazy run which is probably my best so far! I’m not a Tetris wizard like some but I can hold my own.

    Touhou Battle Gaiden
    Platform: PC
    Started: N/A
    Status: N/A

After playing Tetris we pulled up a video showing off Tetris Battle Gaiden for the Super Famicom and joked that they probably did a Touhou one… a few days later I found it! It’s hilarious considering how it plays out including the ultra cute drawings of the Touhou girls. I still find it funny that Cirno actually kills her opponent as one of the battle attacks. We ended up trying this out while my friend was setting up Minecraft.

    Minecraft
    Platform: PC

    Status: N/A

Speaking of Minecraft, we jumped back into Cirno (the world we play on) and I finally got a few new additions to my little underwater facility I’ve been working on. A Nether portal and a rail station. The Rail station is a full scale version of a test platform I have on the surface which automatically sends a cart back to the point of origin when a new one arrives if the queue is full. I still need to improve it such as call a cart is one is not available and a switch to add a 3rd station to the rail system. The above ground station needs to get buried (because I never do anything the easy way) and integrate it to our tower. I was also thinking of making a lighthouse not far from the subpen my friend is building. He’s nuts too, he’s doing it to scale of a Los Angeles attack sub.

    Atelier Rorona
    Platform: PS3
    Started: October 9th 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I ended up restarting the game because I’m sooo borked from my first attempt. The first game was so far into the bad ending it wasn’t funny anymore so I restarted with better knowledge of the world of Atelier and started making very good progress. I’m in the 2nd year at a good pace to hand the 3rd year the correct way now. I don’t think I’ll be able to get the ending for the master but at least I’m set for the true ending of the game. Good thing because Totori is on my desk unopened… along with Ace Combat and Rune Factory…

Gamelog: August 18th thru August 24th

    Platform: SNES (Emulated)
    Started: August 24th, 2011
    Status: Meh…

So we pulled this one out just to try it. We watch the Kacho do this on Retro Game Master (Gamecenter CX) and we wanted to see how difficult it would be…. GOD DAMN IT is it difficult! I want to beat it but need to master the controls first. AI doesn’t help that it’s sometimes stupid.

    Tenchu Z
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: August 1st, 2011
    Status: Hard mode Story Complete!
    Demo: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Tenchu-Z-Demo/00000000-0000-400d-80d0-0000465307d7?cid=SLink

I finally finished the main story of Tenchu Z. The game is a lot of fun and a bit difficult. It does get easier over time as you learn the quirks of dealing with each kind of enemy with the combat system. Still I find it hard that the final two battles pits you in a melee battle between a gun wielder and another ninja. Funny… this is the same problem you run into in Deus Ex where your built out for stealth but forced into a really bad combat situation. Though an interesting strategy will be to drag the boss to the roof and then try to knock him into the water :P

    The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I didn’t enjoy my first experience with Touhou since someone had me try it on the harder difficulty. I wasn’t always a fan of bullet hell games but for some reason Touhou drew me in. It must be the music since I really enjoy it. So far I’ve been able to get to Sakuya, the 4th boss in the game however I can’t beat her just yet. I’m getting better at the game though the control method (360 controller) isn’t as precise as I want it to be. I’m going to beat this game!

    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 23rd, 2011

OMG… You must play this game! The minute you set foot in this world you easily fall head first into the atmosphere and get sucked in. The first night I played it, quiet literally 3a.m. in the morning it released and the next thing I knew it was time for work. The game’s atmosphere gives the feel of Blade Runner and it’s not far from it. The world feels alive with all the little details you can sneak and hack your way into and the stealth is a lot of fun! Slipping into a building unnoticed and dispatching guards without the others noticing. I guess that’s why Tenchu Z really drew me in.

Gamelog: August 11th thru August 17th

    Soul Blade
    Platform: Playstation One
    Started: ???
    Status: Demoed

It’s been such a long time since I played this game. I use to own a copy of it way back when but I don’t have one now. I don’t remember trading it in or lending it out so I’m not really sure what happened. Funny enough my tournament stick works well on the emulation so I was able to do some moves using some of my old favorites but a lot of moves weren’t present in this version of the game.

    Virua Fighter Kids
    Platform: Sega Saturn
    Started: August 10th
    Status: Demoed

I’m really not sure what to say about this game. It’s really weird. It’s Virtua Fighter but in a chibi/silly sorta way. Some moves still work just like in the normal but I can’t seem to stop laughing whenever the characters make faces or struggle to lift the opponent for a throw.

    X-Men Children of Atom
    Platform: Sega Saturn
    Started: August 10th

Ah this brings back memories. I remember playing this long ago. Not that hard of a fighting game. Easier to play then today’s games since its geared toward a different generation.

    Arcana Heart 3
    Platform: Playstation 3

We popped this in to play it in versus mode. This is actually the first time playing against human opponents. Some characters I understand how to play others I still can’t wrap my brain around their mechanics. Still haven’t learned all their super special attacks yet either. This game does play with just about every single fetish in the book though. Go figure that it’s an all girls fighting game!

    Tenchu Z

Did a bit more Tenchu. I’m getting better at this game. I’m not far from the end of the main story but have a long way to go to max out the achievements for the game.

Chantelise – A Tale of Two Sisters
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 1st, 2011
    Status: Ongoing
    Demo: http://store.steampowered.com/app/70420/

I played a bit more of the game. It really is a lot of fun and really cute! The controls do take some time to get use to since it is a sorta 2D in a 3D world. Reminds me of a higher resolution Xenogears in a way. Neat effects in that. I hope they bring over more games from this company.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles version)
    Platform: PlayStation Portable
    Started: August 10th, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

This is an old classic game that I really really love. It’s probably the only Castlevania game I’ve actually finished too! I’m playing through it with Alucard’s gear in tow slipping by death at the start of the game using the luck trick. Really useful early on since it makes the starting bosses easier to deal with. Wonder how much more I can sequence break this game!

    Tactics Ogre: Lets Cling Together
    Platform: PlayStation Portable
    Started: August 4th, 2011

Only did another mission or so. It’s a lot harder then Final Fantasy Tactics goes in terms of keeping teams alive as well as dealing the right amount of damage to put down the enemy.

    Mercs
    Platform: Sega Genesis
    Started: August 6th
    Status: Completed*

This is apparently the true sequel to the Commando game found in the arcade and the NES. I didn’t realize it till I happened to notice the game was developped by Capcom and it had very much the same style of play. It’s not a fair game and designed as a quarter eater in the arcades. This problem extended to the original mode as well which can be a bit unfair. Difficulty in the game was excessive even on easy and would probably frustrate players today especially since the genesis D-pad has a lot to be desired. We ended up cheating to make our way through the games modes. I finished Arcade mode using mostly the flamer and my friend ran through the original mode. There were three points in the final area of the game where intsa-death can occur meaning those quarters would be going away fast if you weren’t aware of this before hand.

    Battletech
    Platform: Sega Genesis
    Started: August 7th
    Status: Completed*

Surprisingly a good game which sorta looks like Mechwarrior Assault now that I think about it. The game drops you into a Madcat heavy mech and runs you through a series of missions taking place during the invasion of the clans in the timeline of the series. You get to pick your weapons which are limited and some can be pretty devastating. I was able to clear the first mission after a run or two to get use to the controls but we had to employ the cheat during the second since they only give you a limited amount of time to get to two different silos across the map which means booking it and ignoring enemies which is bad considering their shots track. The thing is if your playing clan… why does the starcomm have clan mechs!?

    Catan
    Platform: XBLA
    Started: Don’t remember
    Status: N/A

Pulled this out of the chest of old XBLA games I have in my HDD. We played the actual board game Saturday and was still thirsting for more Catan so I pulled this out. The computer can be a freaking cheat sometimes. They also play haphazardly like I had one AI drop the robber on a square he also had stuff a city on just to screw me over. I was able to win a game eventually but it required me to blockade a good chunk of the board by massive and quick road building.

    Tenchu Z
    Platform: Xbox 360

Played a bit more Tenchu Z with friends online. We’re diving into missions much further then my single player so I’m earning mostly gold to buy stuff. Some of the later missions introduce enemy ninjas and kunoichi. Argh… the freaking kunoichi don’t hesitate to pull a weapon if they hear something which means very bad things. Still not use to rolling right behind the enemy to grab them. I did try the stand up fight mission, 17 however I’m not good at it yet and got my ass kicked. Its a long mission since you have to clear the place out :(

    Tactics Ogre: Lets Cling Together
    Platform: PlayStation Portable
    Started: August 4th, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

Been meaning to get to this game so I can send it back to Gamefly. The game is very much Final Fantasy Tactics in a sense both gameplay and graphically. That being said it was developed by Square Enix. Of course fans see the FFT game as a offshoot of the Tactics Ogre series. The game is much more complex then anything in FFT and has a pretty good story to it so far. I’m only in chapter 1 but its taking me some time with each missions because I tend to restart and see if I could do better then I did last.

    Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles
    Platform: PlayStation Portable
    Started: August 10th, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I actually have owned this game for a bit but I had to start over. I’ve never finished it. The game is the remake of Rondo of Blood using new artwork and a 2.5D design. Its the first time this game has been officially released in the US in an unedited format. The original game Castlevania X is a hacked up version of this game. It introduces Maria to the series who reappears in Symphony of the Night. Speaking of which is also in this copy of the game. I’m still in the process of unlocking it though.

    Halo Reach
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: 2010
    Status: Completed

I threw this game back in to play with some friends in a game of horse. Yup, the whole goal is to navigate some crazily designed levels by users only to blow your self up in the end? Thanks to Achievement Hunters, we now have an interesting way to play. Interestingly enough I don’t recall if we ever kept score since by 20 minutes in we’re so frustrated with the level and start cheating.

    Arcana Heart 3
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

PSN finally came back up so i could finally redeem my PSN card that I got. I went ahead and picked up Arcana Heart 3 which is the 3rd game in an all girl fighting series. I have the first and liked it but we ended up skipping the second one. So far I’ve only gone through the game a few times but i’m having trouble with the last boss in the game in story/arcade mode.

    Blazblue Continuum Shift
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

We pulled this out over the weekend to play around with. I haven’t practiced in a while so I’m really rusty with Noel and Litchi. We mess around for a bit and even got Bang’s super mode running. Man that’s a fast special!

    Tekken 6
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

Another game where we pulled out to try it. My favorite is still Lili though I need to practice the combo I like to use. We played for a bit though since this was on my friend’s console, I didn’t really have any of my customizations.

    Wipeout HD
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: 2009
    Status: Ongoing

Ah Wipeout HD. The series itself has been a fun change of pace to the usual racing. With PSN coming back online, I had the chance to get Wipeout HD Fury for free through the welcome back program. One of the neat features in fury is pure combat where the goal is to deal enough damage to meet the goal.

    Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
    Platform: Nintendo DS
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I actually restarted since I hadn’t played the game in nearly half a year. The game is vary much a Japanese Strategy RPG set in the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game seems to have branching stories which is neat and all. I’m only a little ways in but I’m going to try to finish it before moving on to the next game.

    Mighty Milky Way
    Platform: DSiWare (Nintendo 3DS)
    Started: June 7, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

My last game for the DSi before transferring everything over to the 3DS. The game is in the Mighty puzzle solving series in which you play a alien who’s ability is to destroy and create planets to allow her to navigate the maze. It’s a lot of fun and the last gem I found on the DSi. It’s by Way Forward Technology who’s working on the new BloodRayne game.

    Excitebike 3D
    Platform: Nintendo 3DS
    Started: June 7, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

The free game for the 3DS when the eShop opened up. The game itself is very much the NES version of the game with a 3DS twist. With the 3D turned off it looks like the original game on the NES but the minute you throw the slider up, the game changes perceptive a bit. The camera pulls back and what was once a 2D game has this very 3D effect going on with depth. It’ls unusual when you first see it and it did blow my mind since the only 3D game I have is Samurai Warriors which has a different use of the 3D.

    Final Fantasy XIII
    Platform: PS3
    Started: 2010
    Status: Ongoing

With PSN back up Saturday I decide to see if I could get further into Final Fantasy XIII and earn a few more trophies to sync up with. The stage I’m at is relatively easy but annoying if your in the wrong setup like I found myself in. Avoiding enemies in this area is difficult and I couldn’t beat the boss due to the damn Doom timer that showed up towards the end of the battle. I almost had him but Fang just couldn’t dish out enough damage. I may have to break open the strategy guide one more time to figure out how to beat him. I’ve been using it as weapon references and such but avoided looking at the boss tactics until after I’ve banged my head against the wall. Still… that strategy guide is a bit big compared to the other games. It’s about as big as oh… say the Exalted RPG book by White Wolf!

    X-Men
    Platform: Xbox 360 Live Arcade
    Started: May 14th 2011
    Status: Completed

This was out of no where. While over at a friend’s place we decided to run through the old X-Men arcade game. OMG… I suck at it! I knew I was bad at it even in the arcades but I seem to have gotten worse! I died more times then i wanted to count in that game. We played the Japanese rom which was even more embarrassingly bad then the US arcade rom. This is also the first time I’ve seen the later half of the game. In the arcades when i use to play it, we couldn’t get through stage 2 without spending a bucket load of quarters. The game is coin eater, and that hasn’t changed even in the XBLA version.

    Soul Calibur IV
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: ??
    Status: I think I finished my copy…

Rusty? Good grief, I forgot a lot of the moves. I couldn’t get Ivy to do her usual crazy attacks and couldn’t remember Kilik’s moves or Seong Mi-na’s attacks. Also it was the first time playing on the controller. I had always played on the 360 joystick I have. Talk about embarrassing when i couldn’t remember the block button. I had it programmed for my thumb on my joystick but on here, I couldn’t remember which one it was. I may break it out and practice a bit…
