The games I played in 2011

Games Finished

Games I played that have a finished status either on the save I have or at another point in time. In other words, I’ve personally made it to the end of the game. In other words, games I don’t have to go back to any time soon unless I’m trying for achievements or playing for nostalgia (which happens a lot :O)

Games left Incomplete

Too many games to play not enough time after work to clear them all. These games were left unfinished at the end of the year unfortunately. These games make up the games I’ll eventually go back to and finish. Some have higher priority then others due to sequels coming up.

  • Anomaly: Warzone Earth (PC)
  • Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (PSP)
  • Chantelise – A Tale of Two Sisters (PC)
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy (PSP)
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (PC)

  • Front Mission Evolved (PC)
  • God Eater Burst (PSP)
  • Hard Corps: Uprising (Xbox 360 – XBLA)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap (Nintendo 3DSWare – Gameboy Advance)
  • Metroid Fusion (Nintendo 3DSWare – Gameboy Advance)
  • Mighty Milky Way (Nintendo DSiware)

  • Valkyria Chronicles 3 (PSP – Import)
  • Wipeout HD/Wipeout Fury (PS3)
  • The Witcher 2 (PC)
  • Games Abandoned

These games I started but have no interest in finishing. They are either TOO hard or the game just didn’t hold my interest and I have since sold them, traded them, put them away or sent back to Gamefly with little interest in getting it again.

    • Alpha Squad (Xbox 360 – Indie Games)
    • Excitebike 3D (Nintendo 3DSware)
    • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 3DS)
    • SOS (Super Nintendo)
    • Sonic the Hedgehog (PS3 – Genesis Vintage)

    Fighting games

Fighting games really have no end though they do have some stories. Some games I finish till I see everyone’s story or I just finish the characters I like. There was a glut of fighters this year so I’m a little burned out on them… Sorta like how I’m burned out on shooters for a bit.

    • Arcana Heart 3 (PS3)
    • Blazblue Continuum Shift (PS3)
    • Eternal Fighter Zero (PC)
    • Marvel vs Capcom 3 (PS3)
    • Melty Blood: Act Cadenza Ver B (PC)
    • Soul Calibur IV (Xbox 360)
    • Super Smash Brothers Melee (Nintendo Wii)
    • Tekken 6 (PS3)

    Blame Valve

Games I started but weren’t planning on playing just yet thanks to the recent Steam Achievements for the holidays.

    • And Yet It Moves (PC)
    • Bastion (PC)
    • X3: Albion Prelude (PC)

    Games with no end

I can’t justify I’ve beaten them nor is there an indicator of such unless you count kill screens which these games don’t have. They can be picked up and played with no connection to previous plays outside of high scores or achievements not earned. Some have stories but they’re pretty shallow.

    • Audiosurf (PC)
    • Catan (Xbox 360 – XBLA)
    • Dungeon Defender (PC)
    • MAG (PS3)
    • Minecraft (PC)
    • PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX (Xbox 360)
    • Pinball FX (PS3)
    • Rockband 3 (Xbox 360)
    • Terreria (PC)
    • Tetris (PS3)
    • Tetris DS (Nintendo DS)
    • Touhou Battle Gaiden (PC)

    Games Demoed

Games I’ve played once or twice either full or demos are on a list to eventually get back to, buy, rent, etc.

    • Bayonetta (Xbox 360)
    • Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy (PSP)
    • Robot Alchmic Drive (Playstation 2)

    • Samurai Warriors 2 (Xbox 360)
    • Stargate (Sega Genesis)
    • Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Sega Genesis)

    MMOs

I play a lot of MMOs so here’s the list I touched this year. Not saying which ones I’mstill in, that’s for me to know and well, and if I run into you in game… hi!

    • CosmicBreak (PC)
    • Final Fantasy XI (PC)
    • Final Fantasy XIV (PC)
    • Jade Dynasty (PC)
    • Rusty Hearts (PC)
    • Shin Megami Tensei Imagine (PC)
    • Spiral Knights (PC)
    • Star Trek Online (PC)
    • Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
    • World of Warcraft (PC)

    Beta Tested

These are games I beta tested this past year. I’m pretty sure there were more and a good number of them weren’t games so they can’t be included on the list. Also these games have NDAs lifted so don’t go throwing it around that I’m breaking one. I actually read them :O

    • Battlefield 3 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
    • Rusty Hearts (PC)
    • Star Wars: The Old Republic (PC)
    • Uncharted 3 – Multiplayer(PS3)

    Gamelogs: Sept 15th thru 22nd

    Atelier Rorona
    Platform: PS3
    Started: September 28, 2010
    Status: Ongoing

I pulled this back out to see about finishing the game before Atelier Totori releases next week. The sad part is I may need to rush the game and then restart it. I think I’m on the bad ending track :(

    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 23rd, 2011
    Status: Completed

I’ve made my way to the second hub of the game. I’m running things a bit different this time around. What I find surprising is you can complete certain objectives for the story without having the mission for them. It alters the story a bit when the cutscenes come up. For example a certain tower inside a gang territory can be turned off before you get the mission for it. The end result are different cutscenes and dialog which is what I wasn’t expecting.

    Minecraft
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 2011
    Status: N/A

My internet went out early Monday and didn’t return till just recently so I ended up dropping by a friend’s place and we played Minecraft for a bit via network at his place. We started a new world which is fine and we were able to put together an underwater base which is cool and all. I’m probably going to turn this into a subway station with rails that go from underwater to surface.

    Samurai Warriors Chronicles
    Platform: Nintnedo 3DS
    Started: March 27th
    Status: Ongoing

Played some more older levels to get all the weapons out of the network battles. Also spending time unlocking all of Oichi’s story events. I find that Nene’s weapon combined with the player character’s ability to increase damage can be devastating. That being said it’s absolutely necessary if you find yourself having to kill an officer while inside an area where the enemy is getting a defense boost :O

    Valkyria Chronicles 2
    Platform: Playstation Portable
    Started: 2010
    Status: Completed

Decided to play through some more levels during lunch breaks to see what I can do about my squad levels. Still not up to snuff compared to my JP game plus I would really REALLY like to unlock Juliana again. I can’t remember the mission i was using for leveling though. I just remember I need to reconfigure the tank to operate as an ice car again.

    Gamelogs: Sept 8th thru 14th

    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    Platform: PC
    Started: August 23rd, 2011
    Status: Completed

I ended up rushing the final it of the game. It’s a very good game but the last level becomes very difficult if you don’ bring certain tools along with you. As a result I had to improvise how to deal with certain elements that they throw at you in the final part. I’m now replaying the game in the Deus Ex mode aka hard mode to see if I can complete it without actually killing anyone. Though I have to be careful, its easy to kill someone rather then knock them out since they don’t come back. The theme and message the game gives is a very powerful one when you consider it.

    Samurai Warriors Chronicles
    Platform: Nintnedo 3DS
    Started: March 27th
    Status: Ongoing

I still haven’t finished this game. I’m now replaying levels to level up relationships to access the weapons that each NPC can give you. It changes your own attack style. So far I’ve found that Nene is my favorite with her triple shadow ability which lets you deal even more damage to a enemy officer when combined with certain special abilities.

Gamelog: June 23rd thru June 29th

    Star Trek Online
    Platform: PC
    Started: Feb 2010
    Status: Captain, Rank 3

I have to thank Q the next time I see him in STO. Why? Well funny enough Q decided to visit Starbase One to screw around with everything and was handing out double skill points. That included kills as well as mission rewards. The quick exit from the sperm ship… no seriously, the ship I had looked like one with a rocketpack! Reaching captain in just under a day was a joy since I’ve never seen beyond Commander rank which was as far as I got during Closed/Open beta. Captain rank gave me the Intrepid class as well as it’s variants. It just also happens to be one of my favorite ships in the series mostly for it’s unique look and design. You know those nacelles that fold up when they go to warp? Well Cryptic between the time of launch and now have fixed them so they actually do just that! They pylons I use are actually from the Discovery variant which gives it a unique look when in warp (astrometrics view). Actually now that I think about it the only part that comes from the Intrepid class is the saucer section. The rest are a combination of the other two variants! I’m going to play a bit more and see what lays beyond here but this fulfills one of my goals/desires of the game.

    Solar 2
    Platform: PC
    Started: June 27, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

An unusual game to say the least. You start of as an asteroid that has to absorb other asteroids to gain mass to become a planet then from there to a planet with life to a star. The idea of the game is to grow into a large star system to not only take out other galaxies but defend and grow yourself till you stab all your planets in the back by turning into a black hole. Addictive and fun. It’s available from steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/97000/

    Monster Hunter Tri
    Platform: Nintendo Wii
    Started: April 20, 2010
    Status: Offline Completed

Even more play and finally hit HR50 which means I’m on my way to running the final phase of the online game and face the online final boss! So far I’ve been able to upgrade my older Rathlos armor to withstand the hits from advanced monster hunts however I’m still suffering from a few inefficiencies… mainly weapon upgrades. At this level you have to hunt some rather punishing bosses to get the parts you need and even then they are super rare. As soon as I get my friend high enough we can all go hunting the advanced stuff.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Platform: Nintendo 3DS
    Started: June 19, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

Surprisingly I’m lost. Not using a strategy guides trying to use the in-game guides… I’m seriously lost. Either I’ve already broken the pattern it seems and can’t seem to buy certain items. Doesn’t help that the upgrade in graphics mean that my problems are now magnified. So far I’ve gotten 2 of the 3 key items in the child story portion however I’m now found myself stuck with Ruto in the belly of the beast. 3D graphics aside, I’m just lost. I think I played the last game with a strategy guide in hand. Now I’m trying to do it without one and I have no idea where I am in the game now.

Gamelog: June 16th thru June 22nd

    Monster Hunter Tri
    Platform: Nintendo Wii
    Started: April 20, 2010
    Status: Offline Completed

This is the most I’ve played the Wii this year now. Got several local friends together to go hunting. A lot of fun and rather amusing trying to not overkill the early monsters. I did play with my friend I meet on PSU and we upgrade my equipment to handle plus versions of the monsters.

    Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor
    Platform: Nintendo DS
    Started: June 7, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I tried to rush through the last bit before Zelda came out but damn it… it just got very hard. Story is awesome but damn am I underleveled. Will probably have to grind a bit to avoid getting beaten to hell and back.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Platform: Nintendo 3DS
    Started: June 19, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

A classic that’s all i can say. The upgrade in graphics are amazing and it looks so much better. Why this didn’t come out when the system did, I’m not certain but Nintendo really should have held the 3DS launch till this was ready.

Gamelog: June 2nd thru June 8th

    Halo Reach
    Platform: Xbox 360
    Started: 2010
    Status: Completed

I threw this game back in to play with some friends in a game of horse. Yup, the whole goal is to navigate some crazily designed levels by users only to blow your self up in the end? Thanks to Achievement Hunters, we now have an interesting way to play. Interestingly enough I don’t recall if we ever kept score since by 20 minutes in we’re so frustrated with the level and start cheating.

    Arcana Heart 3
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

PSN finally came back up so i could finally redeem my PSN card that I got. I went ahead and picked up Arcana Heart 3 which is the 3rd game in an all girl fighting series. I have the first and liked it but we ended up skipping the second one. So far I’ve only gone through the game a few times but i’m having trouble with the last boss in the game in story/arcade mode.

    Blazblue Continuum Shift
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

We pulled this out over the weekend to play around with. I haven’t practiced in a while so I’m really rusty with Noel and Litchi. We mess around for a bit and even got Bang’s super mode running. Man that’s a fast special!

    Tekken 6
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

Another game where we pulled out to try it. My favorite is still Lili though I need to practice the combo I like to use. We played for a bit though since this was on my friend’s console, I didn’t really have any of my customizations.

    Wipeout HD
    Platform: Playstation 3
    Started: 2009
    Status: Ongoing

Ah Wipeout HD. The series itself has been a fun change of pace to the usual racing. With PSN coming back online, I had the chance to get Wipeout HD Fury for free through the welcome back program. One of the neat features in fury is pure combat where the goal is to deal enough damage to meet the goal.

    Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
    Platform: Nintendo DS
    Started: June 2011
    Status: Ongoing

I actually restarted since I hadn’t played the game in nearly half a year. The game is vary much a Japanese Strategy RPG set in the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game seems to have branching stories which is neat and all. I’m only a little ways in but I’m going to try to finish it before moving on to the next game.

    Mighty Milky Way
    Platform: DSiWare (Nintendo 3DS)
    Started: June 7, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

My last game for the DSi before transferring everything over to the 3DS. The game is in the Mighty puzzle solving series in which you play a alien who’s ability is to destroy and create planets to allow her to navigate the maze. It’s a lot of fun and the last gem I found on the DSi. It’s by Way Forward Technology who’s working on the new BloodRayne game.

    Excitebike 3D
    Platform: Nintendo 3DS
    Started: June 7, 2011
    Status: Ongoing

The free game for the 3DS when the eShop opened up. The game itself is very much the NES version of the game with a 3DS twist. With the 3D turned off it looks like the original game on the NES but the minute you throw the slider up, the game changes perceptive a bit. The camera pulls back and what was once a 2D game has this very 3D effect going on with depth. It’ls unusual when you first see it and it did blow my mind since the only 3D game I have is Samurai Warriors which has a different use of the 3D.

Gamelogs: April 7th thru April 13

    Samurai Warriors Chronicles
    Platform: Nintnedo 3DS
    Started: March 27th
    Status: Ongoing

Closing in on the final half of Samurai Warriors Chronicles. I’m surprised how close the game follows the events of Sengoku period. So far I’ve run into a usual problem where I have to take on enemies that half rather strong defenses. I easily forget to employ the skills like increased damage and usually end up resorting to a musou attack spam to get myself out of trouble. Apparently there are secret missions hidden in the game that show up if you don’t fail a mission. I’ll have to swing back through the game to find them all.

Gamelogs: March 31st to April 6th

    The 3rd Birthday
    Platform: Playstation Portable
    Started: March 31st
    Status: Completed

My god! How many years has it been since Parasite Eve 2? Getting your mind around the combat system of any Parasite Eve game requires you to toss out what you know of the previous game since none of the 3 games share game mechanics. The game uses a 3rd person cover based gameplay which you can aim at your targets. What changes things is the ability to jump between NPCs also taking part in battle. Aya now posses a new ability known as Overdive allowing this. The story itself is a little confusing at first but it begins to clear up with a twist that comes out of no where that can easily blow your mind as a fan of the series. The game is definitely fun!

    God Eater Burst
    Platform: Playstation Portable
    Started: March 28th
    Status: Ongoing

I finally had a chance to play the multiplayer side of the game. Interestingly enough, you can play all of the single player story while in multiplayer mode so it does make things a bit interesting in terms of how easy some story missions get. We didn’t get far but it was really fun to play :)

    Samurai Warriors Chronicles
    Platform: Nintnedo 3DS
    Started: March 27th
    Status: Ongoing

Went a bit further into teh game. Surprisingly it’s rather a long game considering. I’m only into chapter 3 surprisingly. Each mission takes about 30-40 minutes depending on how complex the missions get.
